As Suze discovered, we all maneuver round horrible bosses, critics, and competitors, however it's important that “The elephant retains walking because the canines keep barking.” A shopper recently asked for my private take on a recent LinkedIn article that includes a few of the world’s most recognizable leaders and the most effective career advice that they had acquired. From Diapers.com CEO Marc Lore’s “Numbers lie. Don’t concentrate on the bottom line,” to my private favourite from Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Toby Cosgrove who mentioned “Tell me your GQ (Guts Quotient), not your IQ.” Whether or not an individual takes any recommendation seriously or with a grain of salt comes all the way down to how an i ndividual internalizes it. After all, seemingly good recommendation may be the worst in your profession, so one should think about the source. So, how did I reply? Yes, I’m cliché. I answered with the most effective advice ever given to me. In my early profession years, two leaders [separately] said to me: 1. “If phrases are price a thousand; tone of voice is worth one million.” 2. “The worst habit you can get into is making use of your own thought process to others.” Why was this recommendation priceless to me? Because, it wasn’t just their recommendation; it was their diplomatic method in delivering such steerage. Instead of tearing down a person’s spirit, every honored it. Not only did I internalize this optimistic knowledge, I apply it day by day. Whether private or professional, I consciously interact with others using the identical method. It taught me other things, too. Advice is great, however how and why it is given is important. Does the giver have your greatest curiosity at coronary heart? Is he or she honoring your spirit, as well as your personality? Does the wisdom harness your inside ambition and pure talents? If the answer is yes, then embrace it. Treasure it. Practice it daily. It may help you navigate challenges and find your life’s objective, as I discovered mine. Filed Under: Executive Insights Subscribe beneath and receive new posts once a week. On the off chance that it wasnt that fascinating the first run through around, it unquestionably wont be intriguing after the 1,000th resume. The equivalent is valid for LinkedIn profiles. You can peruse associate Louise Fletchers post about this here.No one will ever discover you. 7 Phrases You Should Never Have on Your Resume

7 Phrases You Should Never Have on Your Resume 7 Phrases 7 Phrases You Should Never Have on Your Resume At the point when I was a youngster, the satire of George Carlin, who passed on this week, was a gift from heaven that could light up the most exceedingly awful of days. At once in your life when you could be content one moment, discouraged the following, and confounded not exactly a moment later, tuning in to George wax silly about the logical inconsistencies, lip service, and the typically open restrictions of the time helped me put it all in context. To respect the comic virtuoso's quintessential sketch 7 Words You Can Never Say on TV, here's a rundown of seven words and expressions you should exclude from your resume. Odds are this rundown won't fill in as the reason for a Supreme Court case, as George's did. 1. Compelling Communicator This expression doesn't recognize you from other occupation candidates, yet that is actually what you have to do today to be brought in for a meeting. Employing supervisors expect you can impart well, in this way, in the event that you don't have a clue how either by email or with your voice you have about as much possibility of getting recruited as a tree. 2. Meticulous Each activity requires a specific degree of meticulousness. Thus, once more, this won't help your resume or your possibility at handling a meeting. The best activity here on the off chance that you realize the activity you're applying for requires this attribute specifically is to be prepared to clarify in a meeting how your elevated level of scrupulousness brought about a key achievement in your present or past activity. 3. Profoundly Skilled This is a nothing expression. You have abilities, and you can utilize a few or those aptitudes in a vocation that calls for them. The main way you don't have abilities is in the event that you've been doing here it comes nothing. Do you trust you have a bigger number of abilities than the normal candidate? Show, don't tell. 4. Dependable You would be wise to be in the event that you land the position. Once more, this is a characteristic that can abandon saying. It simply doesn't recognize you from the other people who may need a similar activity. 5. References Available Upon Request This was ordinary practice in the realm of resumes that has become pass. Continuously accept that a business will need to check references, or if nothing else direct a Web search on you and what you've achieved. Along these lines, don't express this on your resume, yet ensure you have the names and contact data of pre-screened likely references in case you're brought in to meet. What's more, keep those individuals aware of everything on your conceivable occupation change so they won't be amazed should the employing administrator call them. 6. Enthusiastic Team Player' Rather than what? A Lethargic Loner? Pretty much every association needs somebody who has the vitality to carry out a responsibility and can work viably with others, and on the off chance that they don't get that vibe from you, those unfilled words on a resume won't persuade them. 7. Ready to Meet Deadlines Here's an inquiry to pose to yourself: If you were to meet only one of each 10 cutoff times, to what extent would you toward the end in your activity? By and by, this is a conspicuous characteristic that only says you can do the absolute minimum. There are different words and expressions that could have made this rundown, at the same time, hello, I restricted myself to seven to pay tribute to the late, extraordinary George Carlin. Got any others? If you don't mind share them with us in the Comments area. (In any case, ensure they're sufficiently proper to pass the controls wink!) Personal Brands RULE on Social Networks - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Brands RULE on Social Networks - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career On Facebook you can’t be a friend of a brand but you can be a fan of a brand. While it sounds like a subtle difference it is actually an important distinction. Brands are the sum total of the experience a customer has when they are interacting with your brand. But on Facebook that interaction is relatively low and un-engaging. The interactions people may have with your brand will be limited to the people they interact with from your company. Companies just dont get it Many companies limit the use of Social Media at work which I think is very short sighted. Of those not allowed to use social media at work, 65 percent said their managers block access to sites like YouTube, Facebook and Flickr because theyre afraid employee productivity will suffer. Ragan Communications Blocking social media sites entirely may not be a good idea. There will always be people who abuse trust and spend time on social media sites with non-work related activities, but I believe the benefits outweigh the risks in the long run. Building and allowing personal brands to flourish is important to having a strong social brand. It’s the sum total of many personal brands that make up that experience people have with your brand on Social Networks like Facebook. So if you are going to allow access to social networks spend some time pulling together some guidelines for your employees. The IBM Social Computing Guidelines have been called “The Constitution” of Social Media / Blogging guidelines and a good place to start. 3 Takeaways for companies who want a strong social brand Allow as many personal brands to grow in your company Empower them with tools (guidelines, group blogware etc) Train them on how to be a brand ambassador Brands cannot make an impact by shouting at you with advertising anymore â€" and in Social Networks it doesn’t even work! It’s the people of the brand that can make the difference. So empower them with the tools and training they need and watch as your social brand grows! What You Need to Know About JK Resume Writing Services

What You Need to Know About JK Resume Writing ServicesIf you want to know how to find the best JK Resume writing services then I would advise you to do some more research. The reason why is that most people only rely on free services. You see, there are only a few companies out there that actually charge you for their services. They simply offer their services and then disappear into the background. This is why if you are looking for JK Resume writing services you need to conduct some research. We've already talked about where to find the best companies. Now, lets talk about how to make sure that the services you are using are actually the best ones. There are a few things you can do.First, there are some resumes that aren't used anymore. These old resumes are quite rare and very hard to come by. Some employers will be impressed with these old resumes and might choose them over a brand new resume.Second, some people only use samples in their resumes. This is really dumb because they re ally shouldn't be doing this. Instead of using samples they should use real applications and be familiar with them.Third, you should always review the resume for grammar and spelling errors. If they aren't found, they should be fixed before your employer ever sees it.Fourth, JK Resume writing services really should have a resume writer that knows how to design a resume. If you want a great resume that is customized, it is going to cost you. Finally, if you know you are going to submit your resume to multiple employers and even if you just want to send your resume to one place then you should probably use a service that charges a fee. This way you can save money and still get the results you are looking for.

Playing it Safe with your Career is the New Risky - Career Pivot

Playing it Safe with your Career is the New Risky - Career Pivot Are you Playing it Safe? If so, that is pretty risky! Are you ‘Playing it Safe’ with your Career? We live in a world where creative destruction has accelerated. If you are not aware of creative destruction then I suggest you read my post:Surviving Creative Destruction in the 2nd Half of Lifefirst. We live in a time where automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics are capable of eliminating your job. The recent article375 million jobs may be automated by 2030, study suggestsstates: The McKinsey Global Institute cautions that as many as 375 million workers will need to switch occupational categories by 2030 due to automation. The work most at risk of automation includes physical jobs in predictable environments, such as operating machinery or preparing fast food. Data collection and processing are also in the crosshairs, with implications for mortgage origination, paralegals, accounts and back-office processing. This will have a ripple effect throughout many industries. ‘Playing it Safe’ is now the new risky! If you think that your employer plans on keeping you for more than three years or expects you to hang around more than three years you are ‘playing it safe’ and that is pretty risky! I started taking risks in my career around the turn of the century. When I have made those career decisions that were actually pretty safe, they felt very risky. I started the planning process for Career Pivot in early 2009. Incorporation occurred in late 2010 and the Career Pivot brand was launched inFebruary of 2012. I had thought things through, gotten advice from many trusted advisers, and hired a coach. In 2012, on a Sunday afternoon, I had a phone conversation with my coach. I told her that I was feeling very anxious about a variety of things going on at the time. Logically, I knew everything was going according to plan but, emotionally, I was a wreck. She reminded me that I had re-made myself many times before. (This was the seventh career change of some sort in 35 years.) Why was this any different? I told her it was not. Every time I go through these changes, it is very anxiety-provoking. I perceived emotionally that I was taking a big risk. It was my perception and, therefore, it was my reality. I was not playing it safe!! Now Comes the Emotional Side. I am a pretty unemotional guy as I am a recovering engineer. What I discounted was the emotional side of starting Career Pivot. For the first 18 months in business, I would wake up in a sweat at 4 AM and think I do not have a paycheck! This is the ‘I do not have a paycheck syndrome.’ No one is there to take care of me. The days of having an employer, company, government … who will take care of you are gone. Nonetheless, I feel far more safe in my career decisions because I am not relying on an employer. Is Your Industry Safe? If you think your job and industry are immune to automation, AI, and robotics then you are smoking something and you are inhaling. Do not listen to our esteemedTreasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin when he was quoted as saying: “Technology has made the American worker more productive. In terms of artificial intelligence taking American jobs, I think we’re, like, so far away from that â€" not even on my radar screen,” Mnuchin said. “I think it’s 50 or 100 more years.” Our esteemed treasury secretary must be smoking something because virtually none of the experts agree with him. I guess it helps to be a billionaire and have no financial worries. Industries are Morphing at a Rapid Rate. I am working on a blog post and survey based on a Pew Research study calledNews Use Across Social Media Platforms 2017. The study states: As of August 2017, two-thirds (67%) of Americans report that they get at least some of their news on social media â€" with two-in-ten doing so often. Even those of us who are in the 2nd half of life are getting news from social media as the study states: For the first time in the Center’s surveys, more than half (55%) of Americans ages 50 or older report getting news on social media sites. Remember reading a newspaper and watching the evening news? I sure do! But, now, I never watch the evening news. I read the local Austin American Statesman newspaper on my iPad on Sunday mornings, and get most of my news from the Apple News app. The news industry is just one example of where change is occurring at lightning speed.I have written multiple posts on this topic: Beware Automation and Robots Will Sabotage Your Career Labor Market and Robotics. What Awaits Us? [Guest Post] Has Your Job Been SMACed? If not Yet, It Will! Will Technology Replace Your Job? Probably! [Infographic] Even professions like Information Technology (IT), which everyone thought would be safe, are no longer. Career Safety is the New Risk. When I left my last corporate employer I swore I would never work for anyone again as an employee. My wife and I have downsized. We have greatly simplified our lives. We have lived for the longest time mostly on savings. It took 2 years before I started paying myself and I am still drawing some money from saving after 5 years in business. We even plan to move to Mexico in 2018. Check out the podcast where I explain how and why. Why The Millers are Moving to Mexico and How They Will Do It!
